Despite first starting group, Rast clinches first BMW pole

After the double victory the day before, the Schubert-BMW drivers Rene Rast and Sheldon van der Linde also put in an extremely strong performance in Sunday’s qualifying for the DTM at the Norisring, although this time it was their turn in the first starting group and therefore they didn’t finish in the benefit from more rubber abrasion. Rast secured pole with 48,662 ahead of “Grello” driver Thomas Preining, who was fastest in the second starting group with 48,773.

Sheldon van der Linde was 0.018 seconds slower than pole sitter Rast and finished third because the two star groups are alternately positioned on the grid.

There is an investigation against the BMW title defenders, Kelvin van der Linde, Marco Wittmann, Jusuf Owega, Tim Heinemann and Patric Niederhauser because of fast times in the last sector, although the yellow flag was shown because of the stranded Clemens Schmid.

Bernhard Porsche driver Laurin Heinrich will start from fourth on the grid, achieving his best qualifying result and ahead of his teammate Ayhancan Güven. Best Lamborghini driver was SSR driver Mirko Bortolotti in sixth place. The best Mercedes-AMG driver is Luca Stolz in eighth place, Audi with Kelvin van der Linde did not get past ninth place.
