Despite his fifth time in the second free practice for the Spanish Grand Prix, Max Verstappen had a good feeling from the first day in Barcelona. The Dutchman was especially happy with the speed over several laps of the Red Bull.
“It was difficult today due to the heat to find the right balance,” Verstappen told Sky Sports† “We still have some work to do in one lap, but the long runs looked good. I’m very happy with that, but we’ll have to find a middle ground.”
Charles Leclerc finished fastest on Friday, ahead of the remarkably strong Mercedes drivers George Russell and Lewis Hamilton. Carlos Sainz finished fourth ahead of Verstappen.
Several drivers complained about tire wear during the second practice. Verstappen also suffered from this. “It seems like everyone is having trouble with that and we also have work to do in that area,” continued the number two from the World Cup standings.
“At least we know that the weather conditions will remain the same for the rest of this weekend, so we can make a lot of progress with the data we have collected today.”
The Grand Prix weekend in Barcelona will be continued on Saturday at 1 p.m. with the second free practice. Qualifying is scheduled for later in the day at 4 p.m. and the race starts on Sunday at 3 p.m.
