Price waited in the final. Van Gerwen quickly faced a 3-1 lead, but Price did not give up easily. He fought his way back into the game and made it 4-4, after the Dutchman missed a lot of doubles. The next leg also went to the man from Wales and so Van Gerwen had to chase.

For a moment it seemed that Price would break our compatriot again, but thanks to a great finish with twice double nineteen, Van Gerwen tied the score again: 5-5. Tension mounted and Price had the advantage of starting the final leg. He made good use of this.

It was already known prior to the evening that James Wade would not be present in Sheffield. The Englishman has been in hospital for a few days after he suffered from cardiac arrhythmias. Fortunately, the 39-year-old darts player is now back at home.

“Now that I am home, I will take the time to fully recover. I will play again when the time is right,” he said on the PDC website. “I would like to thank the doctors for their great care over the past few days and also all the fans around the world who have sent messages of support.”
