Brandenburg hires 1,200 new civil servants. Although the government knows that the crisis is getting worse.
On Tuesday, the cabinet presented the 2023/24 double budget: Brandenburg intends to spend 15.5 billion euros annually. 564 teachers and 122 police officers will also be hired. From August 2024 all daycare years will be free of charge. Prime Minister Dietmar Woidke (60, SPD): “We are not saving against the crisis.”
But because of the explosion in energy prices and inflation, the figures are “only virtual,” admitted Interior Minister Michael Stübgen (62, CDU). New debts threaten. “We have only seen the beginning of the crisis,” said Finance Minister Katrin Lange (50, SPD). “We will slide into recession, inflation will continue to rise.”
The federal government should help with an energy price cap and relaxation of the debt brake. Woidke: “It has to happen quickly!”
