Despite Corona, holidays in Berlin can also be great

Holidays in Berlin have to be boring? Are you kidding me? Are you serious when you say that! Despite the pandemic, 2G plus and restricted travel, these Berliners are having a good time in their capital.

With a mask in the monkey house

Mama Josi (35) calls her trip to the zoo “airing the children once”. Together with her son Emil (3) and girlfriend Isa (35) and their daughter Celina (3) she is out and about in the zoo. “Fortunately, children under six are exempt from the obligation to take tests,” she says, “we’re boosted.” You can only go to the monkey house with a mask, “but that doesn’t bother you.”

2G (vaccinated or recovered) applies in the zoo and 2G-plus in the restaurants. You also need a test there. Otherwise the two mums go to the Britzer Garden or to the playground. “You don’t really travel that much anymore.”

Once a week to the museum

Every Wednesday to the museum. Until two years ago, this was the regular cultural program for hotelier Werner (58) from Charlottenburg. “Because of Corona, we stopped doing it, but started again exactly a week ago,” he says.

Together with his girlfriend, he now regularly explores the city and its exhibitions again. Both are boosted. “It’s easy to show proof,” he says, “you don’t have to queue for that at the moment and you have a lot more space than before the pandemic.” They’ve already been to the New and Old National Gallery, next week there’s an exhibition somewhere around that Schloss Charlottenburg.

First testing, then Berlin in chords

The day before yesterday the technology museum, yesterday the zoo and aquarium, today Legoland and Madame Tussauds. Nuray (43) and her three children Zara (10), Kayra (6) and Koray (9) are currently using the full children’s program in Berlin. “The children get tested for this every day,” says the mother, “then it’s no problem getting in anywhere.” She herself has been vaccinated.

The pharmacist and yoga teacher emigrated to Turkey with her husband and children four years ago while visiting her sister in Berlin. “We really enjoy the many opportunities for children here and are always on the go.”
