Nico Schulz no longer plays a sporting role at Borussia Dortmund. BVB would let the left-back move early in the summer – even for free.
Head coach Edin Terzic at Borussia Dortmund has not been using Nico Schulz for months. The ex-national player’s last Bundesliga game was more than a year ago. At that time he was on the pitch against Greuther Fürth. The employment relationship between the player and the club could now end in the summer.
According to “Bild”, BVB is ready to let Schulz go for free – the defender is still tied to Dortmund until 2024. Actually, the black and yellow could still demand a fee.
The Westphalia supposedly want to save the salary in any case. According to the tabloid, Schulz collects almost six million euros a year. This should make the native of Berlin one of the higher earners in the squad.
Nico Schulz: Disappointing record at BVB
Schulz switched from TSG Hoffenheim to BVB in the summer of 2019 for around 25 million euros. At that time he was still a regular part of the German national team.
At the Revierklub, however, the now 30-year-old fell far short of expectations. The left foot played just 61 competitive games for Borussia – a manageable record in almost four years.
Last January, rumors circulated about a possible move to Italy. Lazio Rome was considered a potential buyer. In the end, a deal didn’t materialize, and Schulz stayed with BVB.
The full-back no longer has a sporting perspective in Dortmund. The cooperation could end for this reason. Nothing is currently known about alleged interested parties. It is therefore still completely unclear where Schulz will continue his football career.
