Despite boycott: Kanye West dominates Spotify charts

The hype surrounding Kanye West continues: Although his fans – apart from his own Donda stem player – have to wait for his new album DONDA 2 for the time being, Ye manages to (for at least two days in a row) to the top of the catapult Spotify charts. He proudly shared this message on Instagram. Maybe also to express a little glee towards the streaming giant.

West has garnered twice as much attention with his Netflix documentary jeen-yuhs and his new record. Chart Data reiterated that West is the most streamed artist on the platform. Fans would especially fuel the algorithm by listening to his records THE COLLEGE DROPOUT (2004) and LATE REGISTRATION (2005). In addition, songs from the previous DONDA album, which West played at his Miami Listening on February 22nd, are said to have contributed.

The rapper recently announced on Instagram that his new record is not available on streaming services such as Spotify and Co. He even turned down a $100 million deal with Apple to make a mark and put new music exclusively on his Stem player. It wasn’t until after his Miami Listening Event that West had started adding songs to his player.

The idea behind the stem player is to be able to play certain elements of the song individually. The tracks would also be constantly updated, so that the impression of a “living album” could arise.
