Despite his bitter semi-final exit at the Australian Open and a cold, Alexander Zverev wants to play for Germany in the Davis Cup next week.
“I assume that I will be in Hungary,” said Zverev in Melbourne. “It’s not a question for me now,” said the Olympic tennis champion.
Zverev had previously lost after 4:18 hours in five sets with 7:5, 6:3, 6:7 (4:7), 6:7 (5:7), 3:6 against the Russian Daniil Medvedev and thus the Narrowly missed out on making it to the final in Melbourne. He then said he had a cold and had a fever the night before the game.
Germany will play against Hungary in Tatabánya next Friday and Saturday. In addition to Zverev, Jan-Lennard Struff, Dominik Koepfer and the doubles specialists Kevin Krawietz and Tim Pütz are nominated for the first round game.
