Desolate Dortmund defensive: Gladbach excited against overwhelmed BVB

Status: 11/11/2022 10:57 p.m

On Friday evening (11/11/22), Borussia Mönchengladbach won a spectacle that was particularly entertaining in the first half and scored a lot of goals, beating a weakly defended Borussia Dortmund 4-2 (3-2).

Jonas Hofmann put the hosts in front early (4th), Julian Brandt equalized spectacularly (19th). Ramy Bensebaini and Marcus Thuram increased with a double strike (26′, 30′), Nico Schlotterbeck put the guests back on track before the half-time whistle (40′). Increased less than 60 seconds after the restart Kouadio Kone for the hosts (46th). As a result, Gladbach missed more chances to score, Dortmund had almost no successful offensive actions in the second half of the game. The foals moved up to three points behind BVB in the table and are currently in seventh place, while Dortmund remain in sixth place.

“We conceded easy goals through our own inability. We made Gladbach extremely strong.”Julian Brandt criticized DAZN and admitted: “That’s absolutely heavy luggage, that’s a shitty feeling.”

Hofmann opened the scoring

Hofmann used the first chance to counter-attack Lars Stindl’s pass, although the Dortmund guests had more of the game from the start. Their pressure resulted in Brandt equalizing, who accepted a precise pass from Jude Bellingham with his thigh at the penalty spot and converted an untenable volley from the turn. BVB seemed to dominate the game, but increasingly got themselves into trouble with mistakes in defense.

After a Hofmann free-kick from the right, Bensebaini headed the ball over the line to put the Foals ahead, while Thuram successfully converted another counterattack. But the guests didn’t give up.

Gladbach’s third keeper, Jan Olschowsky, held the lead twice against Yousuffa Moukoko and Gio Reyna (33′), but then had no chance when BVB scored the next goal: First, the goalkeeper saved against Niklas Süle, and Schlotterbeck pushed the ball over the ball from close range Line.

Lightning strike from Koné

Shortly after the break, Gladbach turned the button again and gave the namesake from Dortmund the next cold shower. Just over 40 seconds were played when Koné slipped between the defenders in black and yellow and converted coldly through the legs of Mats Hummels in his 400th Bundesliga game to make it 4:2. And a little later it was again a mistake in the Dortmund defense, which Thuram almost used to 5: 2. But his shot went wide.

After almost an hour, Dortmund coach Edin Terzic switched on offensive power: Schlotterbeck and Emre Can had to give way, Anthony Modeste and Salih Özcan came into the game. But a little later, the home fans cheered again: Hofmann had pushed a Thuram pass into the net, but the Frenchman had only got the ball through a foul on Hummels – the video evidence was clear.

Dortmund hardly managed to create any offensive scenes afterwards, but was lucky that Thuram was unable to use the umpteenth pass through the back four (76th). While the guests had produced eight shots on goal in the first half of the game, Bellingham & Co. did almost nothing in the offensive half of the game. Only a shot from Modeste came to the Gladbach box, but Olschowsky had no problems with the attempt placed in the middle. The highlight in the final phase was the return of Ko Itakura, who had been injured for a long time after a strong start to the season – a warm welcome from the Gladbach fans.

After the World Cup and the subsequent winter break, Borussia Dortmund will host FC Augsburg (Sunday, January 22, 2023, 3:30 p.m.). Mönchengladbach is challenged at home against Bayer Leverkusen two hours later.
