British designer Vivienne Westwood has died at the age of 81. Her family shared the sad news with the world via the fashion designer’s Instagram account. Accordingly, she died in Clapham, south London, in the presence of her relatives.

A photo of the style icon read: “Vivienne did the things she loved until the last moment. Design, work on her art, write her book and change the world for the better. Their innovation and impact over the past 60 years has been immense and will continue to be so in the future.”

Vivienne Westwood found strength in Taoism

Vivienne Isabel Westwood was born on April 8, 1941 in Tintwistle near Manchester. She was the daughter of a shoemaker and a cotton spinner. “Vivienne considered herself a Taoist,” according to her family. “She wrote: The spiritual system of the Tao. Never has the Tao been as necessary as it is today. The Tao makes you feel like you belong to the cosmos and gives meaning to your life; it gives you such a sense of identity and power that you know you are living the life you can and should live: live your character and your life on earth to the fullest.”

The relatives close the Instagram post as follows: “The world needs people like Vivienne to bring about change for the better.”
