Designer Guido Maria Kretschmer gives tips for dealing with dementia

Fashion designer Guido Maria Kretschmer has spoken out in favor of a sensitive approach to people suffering from dementia.

“I believe that it could make it easier for the relatives of people with dementia if you play along with the gaps in their memory,” said the 58-year-old in the “Bild” interview on the occasion of the publication of his new book “19,521 Steps”.

In the interview, Kretschmer said that his mother suffered from dementia. He said he could “get really involved in it” and “even found it enriching if you could get out of the way of your own life for a moment.”

“There is great sadness when you feel that you suddenly forget your own mother,” Kretschmer continued. If one day you are older, like him, then this situation will also happen to many others. (dpa)
