Heritage associations pointed to the architectural value, a petition collected 3000 signatures and the Council for Permit Disputes made them in favor of March this year. Result: the building will not be demolished effectively. There will be a new design that must start from the preservation of the building and the heritage value. But the NMBS and the city of Kortrijk are holding on to a new, multimodal, accessible station. That is affordable.
Ruth Vandenberghe, Mayor Kortrijk: “Nobody wants the costs to swing. The bill must be right. We must be sober in approach and big in ambition. We work together from a realistic and affordable design with respect for the heritage value of the station building and a feasible timing.”
