Deserted Curaçao soldier caught in Heerlen | 1Limburg

The Royal Netherlands Marechaussee arrested a 28-year-old soldier from Curaçao on Tuesday evening in Heerlen. This after the Public Prosecution Service of Curaçao had requested this.

The armed forces will announce this on social media† The soldier was on leave in the Netherlands, but did not return after that.

Leave 30 days expired
The Marechaussee informed L1 that his leave had already expired for more than thirty days. There would also be talk of desertion: leaving the armed forces without permission. A spokesperson could not say what the soldier was doing in Heerlen for so long for privacy reasons.

Tracked quickly
The soldier was traced within an hour of the request from Curaçao. The Marechaussee says that this was possible so quickly because the address was known to them.

To justify
The soldier will soon have to report to his unit and account for it. It is not known when he will be flown back to Curaçao.
