Yesterday, Thursday (March 23), Depeche Mode started their “Memento Mori” tour in Sacramento (read the album review here). Dave Gahan, Martin Gore, Christian Eigner and Peter Gordeno played 23 songs (quite a lot for their standards, but what can you do – the back catalog is growing after all), five of them from the new record.

DM gigs consist of a few routines, usually the five mega hits “I Feel You”, “Walking In My Shoes”, “Never Let Me Down Again”, “Enjoy The Silence” and “Personal Jesus” are always represented . But the current setlist also had some surprises in store.

01. “Sister of Night”

Dave Gahan sings the song live for the first time (as he did on “Ultra” in 1997), and that too in the album arrangement. Martin Gore usually took over this part on stage, in an acoustic version. Last time 2009.

02. “A Question of Lust”

First performance since 2017, and first non-acoustic since 2013. The original is on 1986’s “Black Celebration”.

03. “Waiting for the Night”

Dave and Martin performed the “Violator” track as a duet, for the first time since 2009 and the “Sounds of the Universe” tour.

04. John The Revelator

Depeche Mode last played the song “Playing the Angel” live on tour ten years ago.
