February 9, 2023 was a good day for Depeche Mode fans. Not only that, Dave Gahan and Martin Gore released “Ghosts Again” — the first single from the forthcoming album “Memento Mori” — along with the music video. The tracklist for the synth-pop legends’ fifteenth studio album has also been revealed.
This is the tracklist of Memento Mori:
My Cosmos Is Mine
Wagging Tongue
Ghosts Again
Don’t Say You Love Me
My Favorite Stranger
Soul With Me
Caroline’s Monkey
Before We Drown
People Are Good
Always You
Never let me go
Speak To Me
Songs for Andrew Fletcher?
Since “Memento Mori” (Latin for “Be Aware of Your Mortality”) is the first full-length since the death of Depeche Mode founding member Andrew Fletcher, it’s natural to speculate which of the song titles might refer to him. We know that Gahan and Gore had at least the title “Memento Mori” (and arguably the theme of impermanence) in mind before Fletcher’s death — titles like “Speak To Me,” “Soul With Me,” or “Always You.” but definitely have a connection to their deceased colleague. “The title sounds very morbid, but you can also see it in a very positive way. Live the day to the fullest, that’s how we interpret it,” Martin Gore explained the title.

About Memento Mori
Memento Mori will be released on March 24, 2023. Depeche Mode announced Memento Mori in early October 2022. The shock of Andrew Fletcher’s death is still deep: Fletcher died unexpectedly on May 26, 2022 from an aortic dissection.
