Watch as Depeche Mode perform their classic “Strangelove” for the first time on this tour
Normally at Depeche Mode gigs there are only small changes in the middle of the concert: Instead of “Speak To Me” Dave Gahan occasionally sings another current album track, “My Favorite Stranger”, and the encore part is sometimes marked “Condemnation” ( from Songs of Faith and Devotion, 1993) instead of Waiting for the Night (from Violator, 1990). Gahan’s colleague Martin Gore, on the other hand, swaps “Home” and “Shake the Disease” (in Frankfurt) for his solo interludes “A Question of Lust”, while the “Memento Mori” song “Soul with me” is a safe bet may be.
But we have to be clear: Gore, accompanied on the piano by Peter Gordeno, not only brought “Home” but also, as a tour premiere, “Strangelove”. The single is taken from the 1987 album Music for the Masses and is a fan favorite. Martin Gore also intoned it on the 2017 “Spirit” concert tour with piano accompaniment from Gordeno.
What surprises will Depeche Mode, whose setlists are otherwise quite inflexible, have in store? For this year, Martin, Dave, Peter and drummer Christian Eigner are done in this country. On July 21st, Depeche Mode will perform at the Wörthersee Stadion in Klagenfurt, Austria. However, the band will do an indoor tour in winter 2024 – you can find the dates here.
There will be six concerts in four cities from February to April – Berlin, Hamburg, Munich and Cologne. Unfortunately, it is not yet clear whether there will be two gigs in the Berlin Waldbühne at the end of the tour. There was a celebration there in 2018, with Depeche Mode at its best.
The current DM album “Memento Mori” leads the sales charts in Germany for the first half of the year. With “Memento Mori”, the first album since the death of founding member Andy Fletchersat down Dave Gahan and Martin Gore through against the competition.
