Depeche Mode in Berlin about Andy Fletcher: “We miss Fletch”

On October 4, 2022, Depeche Mode announced at a press conference in Berlin that there will be a new album called “Memento Mori” and a world tour in 2023. Of course, the conversation also fell on her bandmate Andy Fletcher, who died unexpectedly on May 26, 2022.

“We miss Fletch,” said Dave Gahan — who also said he fondly remembers Fletcher’s whimsical comments in the process. “Those are the things you miss in someone: things you take for granted when someone’s still around. He was really missed,” said the singer.

“I expected Fletch to come along at any moment”

It’s the everyday moments that suddenly remind Gahan and Gore of Fletcher, the musicians said. “Just recently I was sitting on the balcony of my hotel. Someone in my immediate vicinity was smoking a cigarette. For a moment I expected to walk up to Fletch and say, ‘Hey, what’s up Dave?’” Gahan chuckled.

Martin Gore feels the same way. “When I entered the hotel in Berlin, I saw a bar. I was so used to seeing Andy there that it suddenly really hit me.”

Speaking of the new album, due out in Spring 2023, Gahan said, “Fletch would have loved this album. We are very much looking forward to sharing it with you soon and we can’t wait to present it live at shows next year.”
