Departing director/general director of the Aletta Jacobs College Ineke van Roo: ‘Education should not stand still, neither should the world’

Board member / general director Ineke de Roo leaves the Aletta Jacobs College. As of August 1, she will start as chair of the Executive Board at school group Trivium.

Ineke started her career at Aletta as director HAVO – VWO. “After 1.5 years, the general manager left. I temporarily took over the tasks.” The position appealed to her so much that she applied and eventually became director / general manager until now. Her career started earlier. “After I finished secondary school, I studied law, but that wasn’t quite it, just as a student should be,” laughs Ineke. She then went on to study German Studies. She successfully completed this. Then she went to RSG Ter Apel. “I spoke to a deputy principal who said: ‘Don’t you want to teach German.’ I didn’t have another job yet so I started doing that and I really liked it. I have done everything at the school, from dean to team leader.” After 19 years she made the switch to the Aletta Jacobs. And now to Trivium school group. “This includes the schools Ubbo Emmius and Dollard College. A total of twelve branches.”

Network

It will be quite a change. “Here are three locations close to each other, with Trivium much more spread over a part of the province. I am happy that my current network will be maintained because I will continue to work in the province. I will continue to see quite a few people, just in a different position. It’s also good to do something new every now and then.”

To develop

Looking back on her time at Aletta, Ineke indicates that she has learned a lot and that a lot has happened. “We have been able to develop a lot in education. You can’t do that alone, you do it together and many people work on it. We can now offer tailor-made solutions to almost all students. It’s nice that this is also in the region and you don’t have to go to Groningen for that.” In addition, there was the merger with CSG Rehoboth and the school had to deal with earthquake problems. “This ultimately resulted in two beautiful new buildings and the reinforcement of the main building, which was not that old. You learn a lot from that, partly because the buildings belong to the school itself and we were therefore closely involved in the financial part. ”

Innovative school

“It is an innovative school and that is very nice because it brings energy. That is good for education because it should not stand still, neither will the world. I look back with satisfaction. A lot has passed, including things that were less fun, but ultimately turned out to be great opportunities for the school.” On Tuesday 18 July, Ineke said goodbye to colleagues during a meeting. Yesterday (Tuesday 25 July) she had to finish the last things before she handed over the baton to her (temporary) successor Willeke Doornbos.
