Denso Kasius returns to North Holland after a failed adventure: “Look for more playing time”

Denso Kasius is the latest addition to AZ. The defender made the first minutes for his new club today in the exhibition match against Shakhtar Donetsk. After a disappointing stay with the Italian Bologna, Kasius now hopes for a lot more playing time in Alkmaar.

The 20-year-old Kasius very recently played for fellow countryman FC Volendam. During his rental period in the fishing village, he made such an impression in 35 matches that Bologna paid a transfer fee to his then employer FC Utrecht. In the Italian series A, things did not go as hoped for Kasius. “I especially learned a lot of things. I had much less playing minutes than I wanted. That is why I have now made this step,” said Kasius, who played 45 minutes against Shakhtar Donetsk.

According to Kasius, AZ appeared to have read the ‘data’ well. “They look at the meters you walk, but also where you walk. And that fitted in perfectly with how AZ wants it. In addition, they also know me from the past, of course.”

Competitive battle

AZ coach Pascal Jansen is happy with the arrival of the right back, although Kasius is still far from guaranteed a basic place. “Yukinari Sugawara is currently the first choice. Denso has to compete with him. Denso is a right wing defender with very specific qualities, which suit us very well,” said Jansen.
