Just like in the selection of the ‘big’ Orange, the selection corps of national coach Erwin van de Looi also has a number of striking names. For example, Denso Kasius, who played football for FC Volendam until the winter break, was called up for the Young Orange for the first time.
The 19-year-old Kasius was a fixed value in the team of trainer Wim Jonk in the first half of the competition. The right-back played 21 games in which he scored no fewer than five goals. Because Kasius was rented from FC Utrecht, FC Volendam was left behind when the player moved to Bologna in the interim for more than three million euros. In series A he played seven times, once in the starting line-up.
With Hugo Wentges (ADO Den Haag) and Sven Mijnans (Sparta Rotterdam), there are two more newcomers in the Young Orange selection. Ajax will supply four players: Brian Brobbey, who has been hired from Leipzig, and Devyne Rensch, Jay Gorter and Kenneth Taylor.
The Dutch Juniors will play against Moldova on Friday 3 June, Tuesday 7 June in Almer against Gibraltar and Saturday 11 June against Wales. If Van de Looi’s team wins all three matches, it will immediately qualify for next year’s European Championship in Romania and Georgia.
The final roster consists of the following players:
Hugo Wentges (ADO Den Haag), Brian Brobbey (Ajax), Devyne Rensch (Ajax), Jay Gorter (Ajax), Kenneth Taylor (Ajax), Myron Boadu (AS Monaco), Mitchel Bakker (Bayer 04 Leverkusen), Jan Paul van Hecke (Blackburn Rovers FC), Denso Kasius (Bologna FC), Wouter Burger (FC Basel), Daniël van Kaam (FC Groningen), Quinten Timber (FC Utrecht), Lutsharel Geertruida (Feyenoord), Jurgen Ekkelenkamp (Hertha Berlin), Kjell Scherpen (KV Oostende), Sven Botman (Lille OSC), Elayis Tavsan (NEC), Daishawn Redan (PEC Zwolle), Sepp van den Berg (Preston North End FC), Joshua Zirkzee (RSC Anderlecht), Milan van Ewijk (sc Heerenveen ), Sven Mijnans (Sparta Rotterdam) and Micky van de Ven (VFL Wolfsburg).
