Dennis van der Geest angry at the media: ‘DO NOT call me a former judoka!’

Dennis van der Geest wants the media to immediately stop describing him as an ‘former judoka’. He thinks that does not do justice to his qualities as a TV presenter. “I am proud of that.”

Dennis van der Geest is still widely called an ‘former judoka’ in the media, but according to him that makes no sense at all. The host of the SBS 6 program Million Dollar Island is annoyed by it. “When I read an interview with myself somewhere, I don’t like it when it says ‘former judoka Dennis van der Geest’.”

Ten years on TV

Dennis tells in the TV magazine Veronica Superguide that the media is lagging behind considerably. “I have stopped judo for a long time and have been making TV programs for about ten years now. I consciously tried to stay away from sports programs, because I see that as the easy way.”

He continues: “My life has consisted of a sports hall, competition hall and tracksuit for so long that I also wanted something different. I am proud that I managed to become a presenter. That’s how I present myself.”

Million euros

So now Dennis is the host of Million Dollar Island. What would he do if he won the one million jackpot? “If I won a million now, I would spend it fixing up our gym. We just had a pretty serious fire due to a short circuit.”

“Due to the enormous smoke development, the entire building actually has to be rebuilt. We could use a nice cash prize for that”, concludes the former judoka.
