In his opinion, there are certain ideas about how star players should behave: Nowitzki is considered down to earth. Schröder, on the other hand, has been criticized for his appearance earlier. He never fit into the image of the down -to -earth one because he treated himself to expensive watches and luxury cars as a young player. “I made mistakes, I’m not perfect,” continued Schröder, who wanted to correct his image.
The discussions started in 2016 when the then 22-year-old posted a picture of his villa in Atlanta and luxury cars on Facebook. According to comments, Schröder is a good basketball player on social networks, but also “withdrawn” and “not a good role model”.
“I had to tidy up for the past eleven years. Although people didn’t know me, they had a certain picture of me,” said Schröder in the podcast “with a national team colleague Moritz Wagner. The company had judged prematurely. “It was a great statement that I was able to represent Germany at the Olympics,” said Schröder in a “Spiegel” interview.
Apart from the hated comments, his love for Germany is unchallenged. Schröder, who has been married to his wife Ellen since 2019 and has three children, explained: “I am always happy when we come back to Braunschweig in summer. The air is different here and I know every street.” His siblings, mother and friends also live there. “We are doing well in the USA, but I could never call America my home.”
Schröder plans to play in the NBA for four to six years.
