Dennis Schouten’s near appearance in the talk show Op1 has caused a great deal of commotion. Critics think that the program has completely lost its way. “This is a new low.”

Dennis Schouten, who presents one of the most successful programs on the internet with Gossip Talk, would sit at the talk show table of Op1 last night. The editors had prepared a topic about the student life of Princess Amalia: “The question is how much privacy the princess has when she throws herself into student life.”

Dennis almost at Op1

Not much, if it’s up to Dennis. “If a video of a drunken Amalia leaks out, we will immediately publish it,” he told the yesterday afternoon RTL News site. “Maybe Amalia didn’t choose her fame, but I think it’s nonsense that she should be treated differently than any famous person.”

Dennis received an invitation from Op1 shortly after those statements on the RTL site. He agreed, after which the editors posted an announcement on Twitter. Dennis Schouten from Gossip Talk will join Op1 tonight to tell us why he does not hesitate to put images of the princess online.

Storm of criticism

It sparked a storm of criticism. “Wouldn’t the editors who work there occasionally feel ashamed of the shit they make?” said program maker Jelle Brandt Corstius, for example.

Hans Laroes, former editor-in-chief of the NOS Journaal, was also stunned. “The dirty flatness is further normalized by the NPO. Pretty clever: a new low every week.”

NPO fame Astrid de Jong, known from the Nachtzuster program: “I secretly dreamed of being able to present Op1. Ever. But not last week and not today.”

Cancellation

Dennis was suddenly canceled by Op1 a few hours later. “Due to the resignation of Minister Staghouwer, the topic about the juice channels with, among others, Dennis Schouten will not continue today,” the program reported.

Mark Wouters, party leader of D66 in Heemskerk, responded: “That you had planned the subject at all is a travesty.”

Jan Driessen, former NPO journalist: “That is what you call a ‘blessing in disguise’ for Op1.”
