Danish military intelligence chief Lars Findsen, in custody on charges of leaking classified information and violating the kingdom’s laws on personal data and withholding information, he denies his guilt.
“I would like to see the charges dropped and I deny my guilt. This is complete madness,” Findsen said.
The head of Danish military intelligence was suspended from office back in August 2020 after an audit of the activities of the department. The court ordered his detention on December 9 last year. Other people, whom the investigation considers to be Findsen’s accomplices, are also involved in this case.
The check in relation to the head of military intelligence and several other high-ranking officials began after it turned out that the department had violated Danish law in its activities. The accusations raised concern withholding information, failure to take measures to identify signs of espionage within the country’s defense ministry, concealment of potentially illegal activities, as well as collecting and transmitting information about Danish citizens.
