Basketball club Den Helder Suns today presented its new trainer for next season. The 39-year-old Daniel Nelson succeeds Peter van Noord, who said goodbye to the Eredivisionist after six years.
Despite his young age, Nelson, who comes from Ireland, has already had many positions in international basketball. Last season, Nelson was ultimately responsible at KB Rahoveci in Kosovo and before that he worked in Germany, Australia and New Zealand, among others.

Nelson says on the Suns club site that he is looking forward to the coming season and the home games in the new sports hall in Den Helder that has yet to be completed. “After the first conversations, it became clear to me that I wanted to work for Den Helder Suns. The path the club is now taking appeals to me enormously, with the role of sports center Quenderduyn becoming very important. It is a great challenge to in the BNXT League to start working in a new hall,” said Nelson.
Last season, Den Helder only managed to keep Apollo Amsterdam under control in the BNXT League. The new season opens for Suns on Saturday, September 23 with a home game against Dutch champion Leiden.
