Den Bosch hopes that garbage can be collected again in two weeks

There are too many garbage trucks, shovels and crane trucks in the Treurenburg garbage transfer hall in Den Bosch. That is dangerous and that is why the labor inspectorate has closed this hall for the next two weeks. During that time, the municipality is trying to come up with a solution so that the waste can be dumped here again. “There will have to be a plan for when which vehicles are welcome, because all at once is too much,” says spokesperson André Bongers.

Due to the closure of Treurenburg, no garbage can be collected for the next two weeks. The streets in the municipality will be cleaned in the near future. The streamers and confetti do not remain on the street for days during carnival.

Unsafe
From the Treurenburg transfer site, the collected waste is sorted and sent to the various waste processors. The hall is busy with garbage trucks, shovels that press the dirt and cranes that move large amounts of dirt. “According to the labor inspectorate, this is too busy, making it unsafe for everyone who works there,” says Bongers.

The municipality had previously closed the indoor recycling center for companies. She hoped that this would reduce the crowds enough that it would be safe again. On Friday, the labor inspectorate ruled after an inspection that it was still too busy with vehicles driving around.

“We are now working hard on a solution. There will be traffic regulation so that you cannot simply drive up and down,” says Bongers. The municipal spokesperson does not want to anticipate the chance that the labor inspectorate will not find the solution good enough. The transshipment hall would then remain closed longer and the waste would then pile up.

Issues
Waste collection in Den Bosch has been experiencing problems for some time. In June 2020, an industrial accident occurred at the waste disposal service, which left a garbage collector disabled. Two years later, the labor inspectorate concluded that nothing had been done to prevent such an accident again.

Employees who warned and intervened at the waste disposal service were reprimanded. In 2021, someone was injured no fewer than 35 times. The labor inspectorate partially shut down the waste service for more than a month in December 2022.

Green bin
To slightly reduce the waste mountain for residents of Den Bosch, residents can also throw residual waste in the green bin for the next two weeks. The green bin can then be placed next to the gray one and they will both be emptied on the next collection day.
