Demonstrations in Iran after the death of arrested young woman

Iran protested on Friday against the death of a young woman who was detained earlier this week by the Tehran morality police. International news agencies and media. According to the Iranian authorities, there is no connection between the arrest and the death of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini. According to Amnesty International, Amini could have been mistreated.

Amini visited the Iranian capital with family. There she was arrested for unknown reasons and taken to the police station of the special police unit that, since the 1979 Iranian revolution, has been responsible for ensuring that women comply with strict dress codes, such as wearing a headscarf. According to the police, Amini became unwell when she and other women received “instructions” about the rules in the country.

She was said to have been taken directly to the hospital. Human rights organization Amnesty International says Amini fell into a coma and died three days later. She had no underlying heart condition, Amini’s family said. Amnesty calls for a criminal investigation into the young woman’s treatment. President Ebrahim Raisi has now asked the Ministry of the Interior to investigate the barge.

Iran’s morality police has been accused of crackdowns more than once. The obligation to wear a headscarf is treated loosely in large cities, especially Tehran. The hair of many women is therefore visible. Earlier this year, police came under criticism after a video of female Iranian officers who were highly crackdown on another woman whose hijab was loose around her head.
