Democrats have won a surprise victory in a special vote on a seat in the US House of Representatives in the US state of Alaska. Democrat Mary Peltola defeated former Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin, the electoral authorities announced Wednesday evening (local time). Peltola received 51.5 percent of the vote, while Palin got about 48.5 percent.
