Demir is satisfied with “barely” 18 percent of pig farmers who want to be bought out: “Every nitrogen space we free up is a win”

Only 175 of the 982 pig farmers in our country – which amounts to almost 18 percent – are interested in putting an end to livestock farming and letting the government buy them out. This arrangement is part of the nitrogen agreement. Despite the relatively low number, Flemish Environment Minister Zuhal Demir (N-VA) remains positive. She believes we will reach the target of reducing the pig herd by 30 percent, she said on Radio 1’s ‘De Ochtend’.
