Demir increases financial compensation for deforestation to 5.6 euros per square meter

The Flemish government wants to increase the forest conservation contribution, the financial compensation for deforestation, to 5.60 euros per square meter. This is done at the proposal of Flemish Minister of the Environment Zuhal Demir (N-VA). The compensation is currently 4.22 euros per square meter. The increased compensation should guarantee full compensation and should also have a “braking effect” on deforestation.
