Demand for fetish fashion and belts is increasing

Online search platform Stylight has noted and commented on two trends, namely the increasing demand for fetish fashion and belts being worn on top of one another.

fetish fashion

What is fetish fashion anyway? This includes provocative clothing and accessories with a vinyl and leather look, but also those made of latex and imitation leather. While search interest for latex mini dresses rose 13 percent on Google, faux leather bodysuits saw an 83 percent increase.

Stylight saw a 187 percent increase in demand for leather chokers and a 191 percent increase in fishnet tights. The best sellers at the moment, however, are corsets and leather harnesses for the body – here, Stylight recorded a 288 percent increase in demand.

“If the weather doesn’t permit it, then at least we’ll heat up with our outfits. April will be hot – because this fashion, which is in great demand right now, comes directly from the fetish scene,” promises Stylight.

Celebrities and designers

Celebrities and designers have been leading and reviving the trend, like singer Dua Lipa, who appeared at this year’s Grammys in the same Versace bondage dress that Cindy Crawford wore to the 1992 Video Music Awards.

“Designers like Alexander McQueen, Christian Siriano and of course Versace have integrated elements from the fetish scene into their new collections, such as liquid latex, mesh, fishnet stockings or leather chokers,” confirms Stylight.

“Belt Layering”

A second trend Stylight has observed is wearing multiple belts and layering them – hence the style’s name, “belt layering”. On the online search platform, demand for western-style belts rose 30 percent in the first two weeks of March compared to the last two weeks of February.

“The good old belt is just becoming the in-accessory of the moment again. Whether thick, thin, leather, with rivets or tailored – a cool belt is the accessory that gives our looks the finishing touch. It is no longer seen as just a functional element, but once again confirms its existence as an important styling element,” summarizes Stylight.

For the fetish fashion trend, Stylight analyzed clicks across product categories during the first two weeks of March (February 28 – March 13, 2022) and compared them to clicks during the last two weeks of March (March 21 – April 3, 2022 ). The Google searches refer to calendar week 9 (February 27 to March 5) compared to week 13 (March 27 to April 2).
