Soundos El Ahmadi is angry with the makers of the RTL 4 program Expedition Robinson, in which she participated in 2017. Very ugly images of her were deliberately used, she complains.
Very often Soundos El Ahmadi feels that she is discriminated against in the television world. She told the talk show of Eva Jinek yesterday that she sometimes wanted to hit a brutal reporter ‘on the mouth’. “But yes, then ‘they’ have won, because: ‘You see, that’s just how they are’.”
Expedition Robinson
All prejudices, according to Soundos. “What you often see, and what I’ve often seen in myself, is that people kind of like to inhumane, dehumanize you. You also saw that at Expedition Robinson. There were really really ugly images of me used, so that people almost… So they could just sell it to hate you.”
Hostess Eva Jinek surprised: “But is that only with you Soundos or is that just how stories are told?”
Soundos: “In many people, but it is more common in women of color. You see this very often in the media, but also in politics. Or you see that happening a lot with activists of color. Then they are made a little darker and a little meaner.”
Toxic World
Eva: “You say it’s a toxic world. Is the media world in which this kind of micro-aggression takes place and in which you are portrayed so stereotypically… Is it ever so bad that you think: I’ll just stop?”
Soundos: “I’ve thought that a lot, also with comedy. You then see colleagues who are allowed to stand somewhere and you are not. Then you have already made five programs and you think: what am I doing it for? I think that for two days and then I think: nobody decides for me whether or not I can participate. That is why I have also learned to claim my place.”
McDonald’s
After the filming of Expedition Robinson in 2017, Soundos claimed that she didn’t care what she looked like in the program. “I arrived on purpose before Expedition Robinson started. Especially the last two weeks before I left, I went to McDonald’s every night.”
She eventually gained seven kilos, she said at the time. “That can also be seen in Expedition Robinson in my big head and belly, haha.”
Five years later, Soundos’s laugh is apparently gone.
