DEL top favorite Munich stumbles again in Bremerhaven

EHC Red Bull Munich is coming under increasing pressure in the playoffs of the German Ice Hockey League (DEL). The champion of the main round and top favorite for the title also lost out in his second game against the Fischtown Penguins from Bremerhaven.

In the narrow 2:3 (0:0, 2:1, 0:2) away defeat, Bremerhaven’s Maximilian Franzreb was again the outstanding man on the ice with 31 saves. The goalkeeper was already convincing in the 3-1 win in the first game in Munich.

“We just have to take our chances,” said Munich defender Konrad Abeltshauser on “Magenta Sport”. “We hurt ourselves with stupid penalties, but we took the lead and we have to bring the thing home.”

Abeltshauser: “Want to change the series again”

So it is before the reunion on Sunday in the best-of-seven series 0: 2 from the point of view of coach Don Jackson’s team, who sacrificed his goalkeeper for an additional field player early in the final period. A team needs four wins to advance to the semi-finals. “We’re not going to bury our heads in the sand, we’re going home now and we want to turn the series around again,” said Abeltshauser.

The Adler Mannheim, who had no chance in the 4-0 loss against the Kölner Haie last Tuesday, have better prospects of progressing again. In the cathedral city, the eight-time German champions equalized thanks to a 2-1 (1-0, 0-0, 1-1) win.

ERC Ingolstadt, who won their second game against Düsseldorfer EG, is also on the right track. In the 3:1 (1:0, 0:0, 2:1) away win, Leon Hüttl and Justin Feser shone with one goal and one assist each.

In addition, the Grizzlies Wolfsburg reported back against the Straubing Tigers after the 3:5 defeat at the start. They won 3-1 at home (0-0, 1-0, 2-1) and equalized in the series. Travis Turnbull had given the guests hope in the final third before Wolfsburg finally decided the game in regular time.
