DEL: Seventh home defeat – Berlin sadness

Status: 11/25/2022 10:30 p.m

The Eisbären Berlin lost on Friday (November 25th, 2022) against the Nürnberg Ice Tigers 2:3 (1:2, 1:0, 0:0, 0:0, 0:1) after a penalty shootout. It was the third defeat in the past four games and the seventh home defeat – the polar bears are stuck in the bottom third of the table.

In front of 10,730 spectators in the arena at the Ostbahnhof, the hosts started powerfully and took the lead early on through a goal by Kevin Clark. On the defensive, however, the Berliners made a few inattentions, which were consistently punished by the guests.

The goals of former Eisbären pro Blake Parlett and Hayden Shaw ensured that Nuremberg went into the first break with a narrow lead.

Nuremberg’s rhymer makes the decision

After the restart, the Berliners struggled for a long time against the concentrated defending Franks, but were able to use another power play: Marcel Noebels scored to equalize.

The final third and extra time remained goalless for both teams despite a few good chances. Patrick Reimer made the shutout the decision in favor of the guests.

Victories for Munich and Wolfsburg

Leader EHC Munich won the fifth win in a row at the Schwenninger Wild Wings with 3:2 (1:2, 1:1, 0:0) and thus consolidated first place. It was a successful answer to the knockout round of the Champions Hockey League.

The Grizzlies Wolfsburg are also rid of their frustration, at least a little. The Lower Saxony were also eliminated in the round of 16 of the Champions Hockey League, and they too have now won in the DEL. Wolfsburg stopped the Iserlohn Roosters’ winning streak 3-2 (1-0, 0-1, 2-1), it was the third league win in a row for the Grizzlies, who have settled into the play-off zone for the time being.

Cheers also in Augsburg, Mannheim and Ingolstadt

In the basement, the Augsburg Panthers sent a sign of life. The 2-0 (0-0, 0-0, 2-0) at ex-champion Düsseldorfer EG meant only the second success in the last twelve games for the southern Germans after seven away bankruptcies in a row.

Tail light Bietigheim Steelers, on the other hand, sold themselves expensively against Munich’s pursuers Mannheim, but ultimately had to accept their third defeat in a row after extra time despite leading twice with 4:5 (2:2, 1:1, 1:1, 0:1).

The former title holder ERC Ingolstadt returned to the road to success with a 3:2 (0:0, 1:1, 2:1) after two bankruptcies in a row. At the same time, the Upper Bavarians established themselves as the first pursuers of the top duo.

Straubing WINS the penalty shootout

The day of the game was opened by the Straubing Tigers and the Löwen Frankfurt. Straubing won in the penalty shootout on Thursday evening (November 24th, 2022). At 4:3 (2:2, 0:1, 1:0, 1:0) Tim Brunnhuber was the match winner for the Straubinger with the decisive penalty at the end. Hosts Frankfurt took the lead in the first third through Nathan Burns (5th).

Quickly back in the game

But the Tigers quickly got back into the game, Parker Tuomie (12th) and Taylor Leier (14th) turned the deficit before Dylan Wruck (15th) immediately equalized again.

After that, the defensive lines and the two goalkeepers conquered the ice and only two more goals were scored: Kevin Magnot scored just before the final siren of the second period to make it 3:2 for the lions, but in the 44th minute Jason Akeson made it 3:3. Nothing happened in overtime, thanks to Brunnhuber the Straubing team took two points home, one went to Frankfurt.
