Table leaders Red Bull Munich surprisingly suffered their second bankruptcy in a row in the German Ice Hockey League (DEL). In the top game on Friday evening, coach Don Jackson’s team lost 4-1 (0-0, 1-3, 0-1) at fourth-placed Straubing Tigers.
After five wins in a row, defending champions Eisbären Berlin suffered a defeat again in a 3:4 after extra time (1:1, 2:1, 0:1, 0:1) against the Kölner Haie.
The Canadians Taylor Leier (24th), Luke Adam (31st), JC Lipon (37th) and Taylor Leier (58th) scored for Straubing, Ben Smith scored the interim goal for Munich (31st), who despite the both defeats are still sovereign at the top of the DEL.
The nine-time German champions from Berlin took the lead three times in the home game against the Haie, but American Nicholas Bailen scored the winning goal for the visitors in overtime (64′).
The Düsseldorfer EG also needed extra time to decide the game against the Augsburg Panthers, which was second to bottom in the table. At 5: 4 (1: 1, 1: 2, 2: 1, 1: 0) Stephen MacAulay made the decision after 1:22 minutes in overtime.
