DEL – Ice Tigers surprise: Adler Mannheim stumble in Nuremberg

On the 17th matchday of the German Ice Hockey League (DEL), the Adler Mannheim lost 2:3 (1:2, 0:0, 1:1) in Nuremberg. Ingolstadt shot the Fischtown Pinguins 6: 2 (2: 1, 1: 0, 3: 1) from the top of the table on Sunday (October 30th, 2022).

In Nuremberg, the favorites from Mannheim got off to a better start and, thanks to Tim Wohlgemuth, took a 1-0 lead after just 113 seconds. But then the Ice Tigers fought their way back into the game and, after goals from Patrick Reimer (8th minute) and Gregor MacLeod (18th), were 2-1 up after the first period.

With a fighting performance, the hosts then claimed the lead. When Mannheim then took the goalkeeper off the ice in the final phase, Daniel Schmölz made the preliminary decision with the 3:1 into the empty goal 55 seconds before the end. The second goal by Wohlgemuth shortly afterwards was only a cosmetic result for the Adler.

Munich with a clear home win against Roosters

With a 5:2 (1:0, 1:2, 3:0) home win, EHC Munich took the lead in the table. Maximilian Kastner (13′) and Austin Ortega (22′) gave Munich a 2-0 lead before the Roosters equalized with a brace from Lean Bergmann (31′, 33′). Benjamin Smith (44th), Andreas Eder (57th) and Yasin Ehliz (59th) shot the new leader to a clear success.

Ingolstadt turns against Bremerhaven

ERC Ingolstadt set a big exclamation mark in the top game against Bremerhaven. The hosts Daniel Pietta (13th) and Charles Bertrand (18th) turned the 1-0 lead of the Penguins in the first round. Shortly after the restart, Maurice Edwards (23rd) increased the number to 3:1 for Ingolstadt.

After Tye McGinn’s (51st) lead to make it 4-1, Bremerhaven shortened it again to 2:4 with Alexander Friesen (54th). But a double strike by Wayne Simpson and Jerome Flake (57th) within 33 seconds made everything clear for the ERC, who have now won six of the past seven games. As a result of the victory, Ingolstadt moved up in third place to Bremerhaven, who are now in second place.

Sharks win in Augsburg

The Kölner Haie took the momentum from the derby win against Düsseldorf and also won against the Augsburg Panthers. Kammerer (9th), Baptiste (22nd) and McIntyre (39th) scored for Cologne. Leblanc (28′, 41′) scored both goals for Augsburg. Cologne remains in the middle of the table after the win, Augsburg is last.

In another game, the Grizzlys Wolfsburg won 6:1 (1:0, 4:0, 1:1) against the Bietigheim Steelers. In addition, the Straubing Tigers won a comfortable 4:1 (1:1, 1:0, 2:0) against the Düsseldorfer EG and the Schwenninger Wild Wings won 2:3 (0:0, 1 :1, 1:1) after overtime.
