DEL: Haie win mad Schützenfest against EHC Munich

In the opening game of the German Ice Hockey League (DEL), the Kölner Haie surprisingly clearly beat runner-up Red Bull Munich 6:3 (1:1, 2:0, 3:2).

The ambitious ex-champion set an exclamation mark in front of 13,177 spectators in the first game of the season. After four victories in the Champions League, it was an unexpected setback in the young season for Munich.

In the run-up to the game, Munich’s preparations were disrupted by doping allegations against 173-time national player Yannic Seidenberg. During a training check, “an analysis result that deviated from the norm” was found in the 38-year-old, the German Ice Hockey Federation (DEB) announced on Wednesday evening. Seidenberg had been suspended by his club and the National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA).

Maxi Kammerer (16th/33rd), newcomer Louis-Marc Aubry (39th/47th), Brady Austin (48th) and Jonathan Matsumoto (57th) scored for Cologne. Returnee Andreas Eder (4th) put Munich in the lead, Patrick Hager (51st) and Austin Ortega (59th) scored the other goals.
