DEL: Dusseldorf’s winning streak broke – Augsburg before relegation

The winning streak of the Düsseldorfer EG in the German Ice Hockey League (DEL) has broken. After seven successes, the old master lost in the top game at second-placed ERC Ingolstadt 1:3 (1:0, 0:3, 0:0), but remains a surprising fourth for the time being.

Leader Red Bull Munich defeated the Grizzlies Wolfsburg 2-1 (0-0, 0-1, 1-0, 1-0) after extra time with a lot of effort. The big rival Adler Mannheim also consolidated third place in overtime with the 3:2 (1:0, 0:2, 1:0, 1:0) against the Fischtown Pinguins Bremerhaven.

The Augsburg Panthers slide further in the direction of DEL2. After the 0:3 (0:0, 0:2, 0:1) defeat at the Schwenninger Wild Wings and the simultaneous 3:1 (1:1, 1:0, 1:0) victory of the Eisbären Berlin against Newly promoted Löwen Frankfurt are 21 points behind the defending champions with seven games to go. Augsburg must therefore hope that the Kassel Huskies, Krefeld Pinguine and Dresdner Eislöwen, who are eligible for promotion, will not become second division champions.

Tail light Bietigheim Steelers is seven points behind Augsburg after the 2:5 at the Straubing Tigers on Thursday. The last one is definitely going down. The Nürnberg Ice Tigers celebrated two important points in the fight for the pre-playoffs with 5:4 (2:1, 1:3, 1:0, 1:0) after extra time at direct competitor Iserlohn Roosters.

The DEG, in which the outstanding goalkeeper Henrik Haukeland got a break, took the lead in front of 3721 spectators in Ingolstadt after a catastrophic defensive mistake by the hosts by Tobias Eder (14th). Ty Ronning (26′), Justin Feser (35′) and Daniel Pietta (36′) turned the game in favor of Oberbayern in the middle section.
