The Adler Mannheim celebrated a mandatory victory in the fight for a direct quarter-final place in the German Ice Hockey League.
The ambitious former champion won against bottom team Augsburger Panther 6:2 (1:0, 3:1, 2:1) and can hope for sixth place a few games before the end of the main round. However, Augsburg’s chances of staying in the league continue to dwindle.
Keaton Thompson (5th), vice world champion Daniel Fischbuch (22nd), David Wolf (29th), Markus Hännikäinen (40th), Matthias Plachta (50th) and Tyler Gaudet (54th) scored Mannheim’s well-deserved victory out of here.
Niklas Andersen (36th) and Otso Rantakari (47th) scored for Augsburg.
With 76 points, the Adler are level with Schwenningen, sixth in the table. Only the first six teams qualify directly for the playoff quarter-finals.
