The Düsseldorfer EG and the Kölner Haie remain the biggest crisis teams in the German Ice Hockey League.
DEG lost the seventh game in a row in a 4: 7 (1: 2, 2: 2, 1: 3) against the German champions Eisbären Berlin. The great fighting spirit of the Düsseldorfers, who fought their way from 1: 4 to 4: 4, was not rewarded.
For the Rhenish rival from Cologne, it was the sixth defeat in a row at 2: 3 (0: 1, 0: 1, 2: 0) after extra time at Schwenninger Wild Wings. Otherwise only one game took place on Friday: The Fischtown Pinguins from Bremerhaven defeated ERC Ingolstadt 2: 1 (1: 0, 0: 1 0: 0) after extra time. At the EHC Red Bull Munich, the Iserlohn Roosters and the Grizzlys Wolfsburg, three DEL teams are currently in quarantine after corona outbreaks. The games of these teams have been canceled until further notice.
As things stand, only four games will be played on Sunday. The cancellations lead to more and more problems with the schedule in the league around three weeks before the planned Olympic break. According to the DEL, the break in February does not have to be used for catch-up games. However, the Olympic ice hockey tournament in Beijing is viewed more and more critically in view of the corona problem, both in the DEL and in other European leagues.
“There are still questions to be clarified,” said DEL managing director Gernot Tripcke of the “German Press Agency”. “In this context, we also have to look at our gaming operations to see what effects there are in the event of failure of players or games due to corona effects on Beijing,” said Tripcke. However, the DEL cannot refuse to release the player because of existing cooperation agreements.
