This week’s guest of Armağan Çağlayan’s ‘Stop Bi Listen’ series published on Youtube was actress Defne Solo. The master artist, who took part in the TV series “Kaynanalar”, which was broadcast for 14 seasons and 314 episodes between 1973-2003, said, “I am the first female celebrity on state television. Because of my fame, I was punished so cruelly,” she said.
Defne Solo, who gave life to the character ‘Döndü’ for 30 years in Turkey’s first domestic television series ‘May-in-law’, talked about the breaking point in her career and how she was punished because of her fame in the newspaper headlines at that time.
Last year, the master artist, who took a guest role in the TV series ‘Call My Manager’, made striking statements in the program presented by Armağan Çağlayan.
“WE RELEASED AFTER ONE WEEK”
Saying “I made the mistake of my life”, the 73-year-old artist made the following statement:
“It is very important that I leave the State Theater, it was a turning point in my life. I took the stage with Tekin Akmansoy at the Izmir Fair in 1976. All of them are retired staff, I am the only employee. There is a clause in my contract; He applies and gets permission provided that he does not disrupt his main job.’ He came backstage. So how can I go back? I got a month’s money from the fair, that’s my theater salary for a year. They neither asked for a defense nor opened any investigation. When I didn’t return after a week, they fired me. The reason is very simple. Every two days in the Hürriyet newspaper, on the front page I’m definitely the first female celebrity on state television. After all these years, I can say without hesitation. Fame means jealousy and punishment. I think it’s the method. A very cruel form of punishment. I lost my wife in 1975. I’m trying to stand alone as a widow. That’s my job, and I’m a good, disciplined player. You are throwing this penniless person out into the street all of a sudden! Did this reduce my respect for Cüneyt Bey, no. Many actors think I resigned from the state theater because I became a celebrity. It’s not like that, Cüneyt Gökçer kicked me out of the theater.”
Defne Solo had passed the exams of the Ankara State Theatre, where she taught Cüneyt Gökçer and Mahir Canova.
HE DIED IN 2009
Cüneyt Gökçer, who won numerous awards, received the title of State Artist in 1981. The cinema and theater actress, who was married to her colleague Ayten Gökçer, passed away in 2009 in the hospital where she was treated in Ankara.
