Definitive: Tijjani Reijnders leaves for AC Milan for 20 million euros

Tijjani Reijnders is an official player of AC Milan. The midfielder was already spotted in Italy yesterday and passed the medical examination without any problems. The 24-year-old Reijnders signs a contract with the Serie A club until mid-2028.

Reijnders came over from PEC Zwolle in the summer of 2017. Reijnders initially started at Jong AZ and in 2020 he was rented out to RKC Waalwijk for six months. Last season, the midfielder was one of AZ’s strongholds and played in all of the 54 games played. He scored a total of thirteen goals in the flagship of the Alkmaarders.

Record

The Italians pay around 20 million euros for the playmaker. With his transfer fee, Reijnders is one of the most expensive AZ players ever. The record remains in the hands of Vincent Janssen, who was sold to Tottenham Hotspur for 22 million euros in the summer of 2016. In Milan, Reijnders is assigned shirt number 14.

‘Example for many’

Director of Football Affairs Max Huiberts: “Reijnders’ trajectory and development is an example for many. He had to be patient, made flying hours at Jong AZ and on a rental basis at RKC in the Eredivisie before he got his chance and grabbed it with both hands “Reijnders has played a very strong season. Partly due to the European campaign, he has come into the picture at top foreign clubs. Although we will miss his footballing qualities and positive character at AZ, everyone wholeheartedly welcomes him for this step.”
