1. FC Magdeburg suffered their third defeat in a row in the 2nd Bundesliga. Against Hannover 96 the defense was again too weak.
Hannover 96, on the other hand, is slowly gaining momentum. Coach Stefan Leitl’s team celebrated a 4-0 (2-0) win in Magdeburg a week after their first win of the season and can move up the table.
Promoted Magdeburg conceded their fourth defeat in their fifth league game after goals were conceded by Maximilian Beier (14th), Luka Krajnc (44th), Sei Muroya (56th) and Cedric Teuchert (90th + 1).
Capital mistake by Magdeburg’s gnaka
A major mistake by Silas Gnaka gave the guests the lead. The central defender played the ball in his own penalty area to Beier, who gratefully accepted the gift.
Nicolo Tresoldi missed the second goal (24′) after the Magdeburg defense was again careless. In front of 23,908 spectators, the hosts initially remained harmless on the offensive, but then missed a double chance through Leon Bell Bell and Connor Krempicki (39th).
Hannover used the chances efficiently
Then Hannover struck again after a corner by Krajnc. Goalkeeper Dominik Reimann didn’t look good. The hard-working third division champions didn’t think of much in the second round either. Muroya made the decision early on.
After the encounter, fights broke out between rival fan groups in the stadium. Apparently, the trigger was a flare that flew out of the guest block onto the adjacent grandstand with Magdeburg fans. In addition, the fire alarm was probably triggered in a sanitary area.
Hanover against Fürth, Magdeburg against Lautern
Next weekend, both teams only have to play on Sunday (28.08.2022): Hanover meets Greuther Fürth, who have been relegated to the Bundesliga. Magdeburg plays against co-promoted 1. FC Kaiserslautern (both 1.30 p.m.).
