Defense sends two mobile labs and several underwater robots to Ukraine | War Ukraine and Russia

Defense will send two mobile medical laboratories and several high-tech underwater robots to Ukraine. This was announced today by Minister of Defense Ludivine Dedonder (PS) at the military airport of Melsbroek, from where the aircraft will be shipped to Ukraine.

The medical laboratories are housed in small vans so that they can be moved easily. Standard medical and clinical tests can be performed in any lab. It ranges from taking blood, saliva or urine samples, to monitoring inflammation and using PCR tests to detect corona or the flu. Depending on the needs, the type of tests can be adapted.

“The mobile labs have the capacity of a classic diagnostic lab, but on a smaller scale,” says Major France T’Sas. “In Ukraine, labs have been destroyed. The ability to perform diagnostic tests has been lost or is no longer operational. With these mobile labs, we can offer the capacity again.”

Even defusing bombs

In addition, the Ministry of Defense has also purchased several underwater robots. These robots will mainly be used to monitor underwater harbors or the coastline. The robots can detect objects, inspect ship hulls or even defuse mines or bombs.

“It is the first time that a country has made such a delivery to Ukraine,” says Minister Dedonder. “We have a strong technology sector in our country that allows us to make these deliveries.”

For Minister Dedonder, aid to Ukraine is still a Defense priority. “Since the start of the invasion, we have offered all the help we can, both in terms of Defense material itself and in terms of our companies. Providing aid is not a competition between countries: we work in a complementary way, in order to be as efficient as possible. to be.”

The two medical labs will be shipped to Ukraine within three weeks. The robots are brought to the land step by step. Training for the people who will use the robots and medical labs will be given at the same time as the deliveries. The robots should be fully operational in May next year.
