Defender George Cox sees ‘immature’ FC Volendam disappointed

FC Volendam lost today by a large margin to Sparta: 1-4. Fullback George Cox started for the fifth time for the Volendam team and saw that he and his teammates did not get up at the important moments. “We are too naive,” said the Englishman.

“Today the same player scored twice from a corner. That shows that we are still very young,” Cox says after the match. “Sometimes you need an older player who can do something about it. Today we showed that we were immature.”

“You don’t create anything in the second half. Then you also ask for the 1-3”

FC Volendam midfielder Calvin Twigt

Calvin Twigt once again played a prominent role in midfield at FC Volendam. However, the born Amsterdammer could not ensure more goal attempts for his team. “We know when we play at home that we are very strong. I think we have proven that again. In the second half you don’t create anything and then you also ask for the 1-3.”

‘Geschmeichelt’

FC Volendam coach Matthias Kohler saw that his team had a lot of ball possession, but that a number of mistakes were made at the decisive moments. “I was very happy with the game in the first half. In the end there was more to it. We were punished at certain times.”
