Defeat statement from Göztepe and Altay – Last minute TFF 1st League news

The Turkish Football Federation (TFF) announced its decision regarding the Göztepe-Altay match, which was played in the 15th week of the Spor Toto 1st League and was suspended in the 22nd minute due to the events that broke out. TFF decided to forfeit both teams (3-0). After this decision, two well-established clubs of Izmir made a statement about this decision.

Göztepe stated that it was an unacceptable decision to be deemed forfeited defeat for both teams, and released the following statement:

“The decision of the Turkish Football Federation, “Both teams were forfeited,” for the Göztepe-Altay match, which was interrupted due to the events in the 15th week of the TFF 1st League, cannot be accepted.

There is no precedent for this decision, which was taken only for the sake of relieving the public. In Turkish football, such a decision was not made in the events where many more people entered the field before. Such a penalty statement by the institution, whose duty is to play football, is also a trip to football.

After the events, the common sense statements of both clubs and their desire to play the match were ignored. Missing a historical opportunity, the Board of Directors of the Turkish Football Federation could not see that such penalties could not get anywhere, and again took the easy way out. An institution that works to increase the brand value of the country’s football has punished ‘Football’ with this decision.

This is why the 6222 Sports Violence Law was enacted. It should be accepted that the realities of the country cannot be changed by penalizing the clubs. The managers of the Turkish Football Federation should have seen that they could produce solutions in accordance with the law and equity by considering 6222.

In the punishment announced; The reasoning is contrary to the rules of universal law, as it is understood that the rules regarding the normal course of the competition and ensuring safety have been violated by the supporters of both teams. During the match, not our supporters, but a ‘person’ who had nothing to do with our club, entered the field, then was caught and arrested. Although we have stated that we, as Göztepe, do not support or approve of what has been done since the beginning of the events, the penalty was again imposed on our club.

With this penalty, not only the clubs but also the players who try to fight without causing the slightest outburst on the field have been deprived of their ‘right to play football’. In addition, the penalty for playing without an audience in a situation where those who caused the events are caught and punished thanks to the cameras in the stadium is an injustice to the fans whose purpose is to watch football.

The punishment given to 19 thousand Göztepe fans, who stood in the stands with common sense from the beginning to the end of the events, is the shame of those who said ‘Football is beautiful with fans’ for years.

As we mentioned at the beginning, as Göztepe Sports Club, we do not accept this decision. We would like to state that, as a club, we will defend our rights to the end on the ground of law in the next period.”

He published a short statement on the subject in Altay:

“We declare that we are following the process meticulously and that our contact with the necessary authorities continues.”
