The basketball players of FC Bayern Munich were not able to take the momentum from winning the German Cup into the Euroleague.
At the Israeli top team Maccabi Tel Aviv, the team of coach Andrea Trinchieri lost after a weak last quarter with 82:90 (44:39) and after the fourth defeat in a row with a balance of 9:16 has little chance of moving into the playoffs
Four days after the cup triumph in Oldenburg, the Bundesliga club was initially much more alert under the baskets against the strong hosts, who had previously won nine of eleven games in their own arena. Because the Trinchieri team also had former Bayern pros Wade Baldwin and Darrun Hilliard under control for a long time, the guests went into the break at 44:39.
After the change of sides, Bayern stayed ahead, also because of the accurate three-point shooter around national player Andreas Obst. Tel Aviv was able to shorten time and time again thanks to Baldwin, who was getting stronger, and Lorenzo Brown, who was outstanding. Nevertheless, the Munich team remained effective and went into the final round with a six-point lead.
However, the hosts turned the match around with a quick 9-0 run. Bayern acted more and more incorrectly and could not stop Brown. 27 points from Maccabi’s top star ensured the 90:82 win against the cup winners. Corey Walden was Bayern’s best shooter with 19 points.
