Defeat, misunderstanding and unrest reign among the inhabitants of Hoogeloon. On Tuesday evening, a meeting was held in D’n Anloop community center about the disappearance of Silvana Heber. About 150 residents were updated on the situation by the mayor, police and the school. But not much could be said.
According to mayor Remco Bosma, the event has a major impact on the village. “The community is small. Children attend school and the local sports club together. People meet. This is a big blow.”
“We try to explain that unfortunately things like this do happen. Even in Hoogeloon.”
That is also what the residents themselves experience. “It is very alive. We are not used to this here”, says a man visibly shaken. “We hope she is found. The chances are not very great, but hope gives life.”
Many residents have sons or daughters who attend school with Silvana’s children. “We try to explain that it is not normal, but unfortunately these things do happen. Even in Hoogeloon,” says a father. “My daughter is a classmate of one of her children,” says a woman. “Fortunately she is not really asking about it yet, but I am worried about her own four children. They will soon ask for their mother.”
“It is to the credit of the community that it wants to search for itself, but now you have to leave that to professionals.”
During the meeting, the headmistress of primary school De Vest says that they try to accommodate the children as best as possible. “We try to teach as normally as possible so as not to cause extra unrest. We notice that the disappearance has a lot of impact, but at school they can be children for a while,” says Miranda de Graauw.
The police are currently combing a forest area in the vicinity of Vessem. She emphasizes not to go looking for Silvana yourself, because then traces can be erased. “We are getting signals that people want to start looking for themselves,” says the mayor. “This is to the credit of the community, but in this case you should leave it to professionals.” People can help by reporting information to the police.
