Songwriter and music producer August 08 has died at the age of 31. This was announced by his former record label 88rising and his family in a statement. A cause of death is not yet known.
Ray Jacobs, his real name, co-wrote Justin Bieber’s hits “Sorry” and “I’m The One,” among others. Most recently, he was signed to Def Jam, the US record label founded by Rick Rubin and Russell Simmons that focuses on hip-hop artists.
Family, friends and label say goodbye
The artist’s family confirmed the death on Instagram and said goodbye. LaSherry McKinney, Jacob’s sister, wrote on behalf of her mother: “It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved son, brother, uncle, singer, songwriter and mentor… Ray Vom Jacobs… aka August 08. He will continue to thrive and.” spread his love through music. With love, August’s mother Mena”.
She also wrote on her behalf: “While we are all trying to assert ourselves, we should understand that we have all come here to serve a spiritual purpose. I find solace in knowing that my brother lived a full, plentiful life. He was able to travel the world and touch millions of people while fulfilling his soul purpose as a musician. I’m proud to have a brother who lives on through music and I encourage you all to keep streaming his records and telling everyone how amazing he is. 08/08 = infinity. His former record label, 88rising, said: “We are deeply saddened by the loss of Ray Jacobs aka AUGUST 08. RIP August, the kindest and most talented genius we will miss you forever.”
