Confidence in King Willem-Alexander has again fallen compared to a year earlier. At the moment, just under half of the population (47 percent) has confidence in the king, according to a poll by Ipsos commissioned by the NOS among a thousand people. A year earlier this was over three quarters of the Dutch population.
The king receives a score of 6.7 from the public. A year earlier it was still a 7.1 and the year before even a 7.7. However, Queen Máxima is improving somewhat: where she received a score of 7.5 last year, it is now a 7.6. The appreciation for Princess Beatrix remains fairly stable. This year she scores a 7.2. In previous years it was a 7.3 and a 7.4.
According to Ipsos, a large part of the Dutch believe that King Willem-Alexander has not shown solidarity with the people. Compared to last year, the number of people who do find him show solidarity has fallen from two-fifths of the Dutch to a quarter. However, people are generally satisfied that the royal couple has received thirty Ukrainians in Het Oude Loo castle in Apeldoorn. Although a third think that the queen and queen have done this for their own image.
The monarchy
The majority of the Dutch, three in five, remain in favor of the monarchy as a form of government. In 2021, support for the monarchy was severely dented when the percentage fell from 74 to 58, but according to the NOS Ipsos survey, that percentage has remained the same this year.
The monarchy receives the most support from the Christian parties. Voters for the Christian Union (81 percent), CDA (80 percent) and the Labor Party (69 percent) top the list. At the bottom of the list, of which the fewest voters support the monarchy, are the PVV (55 percent), the SP (53 percent) and the Party for the Animals (49 percent).
Earlier this week, the EenVandaag poll made it clear that confidence in the royal couple has never been so low. This is partly because the royal couple did not always adhere to the corona rules in the past two years.
